The European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) is a symphony orchestra composed of young musicians from each of the 27 member states of the European Union, aged between 16 and 26, selected from around 3,000 young people competing for 120 places.
Many of the Orchestra’s 4,000 alumni have gone on to become important conductors, soloists, teachers, and instrumentalists. Since 1978, together with Claudio Abbado, who strongly advocated for its creation, the EUYO has played in all the European and world capitals with the greatest conductors.
The honorary president is the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. Its honorary patrons include the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the Heads of State and Government of the EU, and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Culture.
The EUYO Wind Quintet is composed of the principal players of the EUYO orchestra.
