Markus Stockhausen, born in Cologne in 1957, is a prominent trumpeter and composer on the international music scene. He is the son of renowned composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, with whom he collaborated for about 25 years, performing many of his works during that time.
His music spans a wide range of genres, moving freely between contemporary music, classical, and modern jazz. His approach to “intuitive music” is shaped by various musical styles, including post-bop, free jazz, world music, electronic, and ambient.
A prolific musician, he has collaborated with numerous renowned artists and has formed several ensembles, including Moving Sounds with his wife Tara Bouman, and Inside Out with pianist Florian Weber. He has also received commissions from major musical institutions such as the RIAS Chamber Choir and the London Sinfonietta. His discography includes over 90 albums. Throughout his career, he has received numerous accolades, including the WDR Jazz Prize in 2005, the Echo Jazz Prize in 2018, and the German Jazz Prize in 2021.
