Paolo Fresu

Paolo Fresu, trumpeter, composer and one of Italy’s leading jazz musicians, is one of those artists who love to connect sound worlds that are also apparently distant. Of Sardinian origin, he took his first steps in music with the Bernardo De Muro band in his home town, Berchidda, before graduating from the Sassari Conservatory and moving on to jazz, with frequent excursions into world music, pop, music for the cinema, theatre, art and readings.

In addition to leading his historic Quintet, which has been joined by numerous other bands, he has collaborated regularly since the 1980s with jazz formations and orchestral ensembles of contemporary music and holds lessons and courses in Italy and abroad.

Fresu has received dozens of prizes and awards and recorded among others with the prestigious Ecm, which has become a reference point for more than a generation of jazz musicians. In 2010 he founded the record label Tŭk Music.
