Teresa Salgueiro is clear, poetic, sensitive, genuine, and profound: born in Lisbon in 1969, she expresses through her voice the musical soul of her country.
Her career began in 1986, when at just 17 years old she joined the group Madredeus as the lead vocalist. For twenty years, from 1987 to 2007, she traveled the world with the band, selling over five million records; the group was thus established as the first international representative of Portuguese music after Amália Rodrigues. Teresa’s voice is described as “ethereal,” capable of blending “earthly desire, cosmic wonder, material longing, and transcendental hope, enveloping the listener in a state of grace.”
She left Madredeus in 2007, and in 2012 released her first album of original songs, O Mistério, showcasing her talents as a singer-songwriter. In 2016, she released her second album of new material, O Horizonte, demonstrating her ability to create “magical atmospheres of undeniable beauty.”
