Andrea Motis

Born in Barcelona in 1995, Andrea Motis is a singer, trumpeter, and saxophonist who has earned widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics thanks to her stunning voice—often compared to Norah Jones’s—as well as her skills as a multi-instrumentalist and her remarkable stage presence, marked by a graceful yet authoritative artistic demeanor.

She began her musical training on the trumpet, later adding the saxophone, at the age of seven at the municipal music school of Sant Andreu, a suburb of her hometown. She later started collaborating with the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, led by musician Joan Chamorro. It was with Chamorro that Motis recorded her first album in 2010, followed two years later by a second studio work that brought her to the Barcelona Jazz Festival, where she performed alongside one of the greatest names in Black music—and beyond—Quincy Jones.

She released her first solo album in 2017 with the prestigious Impulse! record label and has since pursued a long and evolving journey through jazz, appearing at major international festivals.

More recently, Motis has begun exploring a new artistic direction with the Temblor Trio, alongside Christoph Mallinger (violin, mandolin) and Zé Luis Nascimento (percussion), performing original compositions inspired by Anglo-American singer-songwriter traditions and Latin American folk-rooted music.
