Daniel Hope, born in Durban, South Africa, in 1973, is an internationally renowned violinist celebrated for his musical versatility. After studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, he embarked on a long solo career, performing in the world’s most prestigious concert halls. Hope is also the music director of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and the New Century Chamber Orchestra in San Francisco, artistic director of the Frauenkirche in Dresden, and president of the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn. He regularly contributes to the Wall Street Journal and Cicero.
An exclusive artist for Deutsche Grammophon since 2007, Hope boasts an extensive discography of over 30 albums. He has won numerous awards, including the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis, the Diapason d’Or of the Year, and the Edison Classical Award.
Hope is also a passionate communicator and host on radio and television. He created the series Hope@9pm, a series of events at the Berlin Konzerthaus in 2016, and during the pandemic, the Hope@Home series featuring concerts streamed live from his living room.
He plays a 1742 Guarneri del Gesù violin.
