Born in 1972, world-renowned violinist Isabelle Faust launched her brilliant solo career at the age of fifteen by winning the Leopold Mozart Competition. A student of German violinist and conductor Christoph Poppen, she moved to France in 1993 after winning the Paganini Competition, devoting herself especially to the music of Fauré and Debussy.
Her international breakthrough came with her first recording of the sonatas by Bartók, Szymanowski, and Janáček, followed by many more critically acclaimed albums.
A passionate advocate of the music of György Ligeti, Morton Feldman, Luigi Nono, and Giacinto Scelsi, Faust has also received numerous accolades for her complete recording of Beethoven’s Sonatas.
She plays the “Sleeping Beauty” Stradivarius from 1704—a further connection to the Trentino region beyond her participation in I Suoni delle Dolomiti, as the wood from the “resonance spruces” of Val di Fiemme was often used to craft the prized instruments of the great Italian luthier.
