Marco Paolini

Marco Paolini, born in Belluno in 1956, is an artist who is much loved by the public both for the intensity of his plays and for the civil commitment they imply.

Director, author, actor and film producer, he has been active on the stage since the 1970s, with an approach to dramaturgy characterised by a continuous confrontation with society, the news, but also collective memories, as well as with the tradition of Shakespeare and Goldoni. The culmination of this path was Il racconto del Vajont, which won the Ubu Prize for political theatre in 1995, a theatrical monologue and true “civil oration” dedicated to the tragedy caused by the collapse of the Vajont dam. This work was followed by several others including I-TIGI racconto per Ustica, Parlamento chimico, Il Sergente, Bhopal 2 dicembre ’84.

Paolini also fascinates the spectator with his mastery of the performer’s own tools, which enable him to tackle the stage without make-up, costumes or elaborate sets, but rather with a skilful use of the body and voice, in the wake of the teaching of, among others, Dario Fo. Frequent in his proposals is also the use of dialects and poetry
