Nicola Piovani

Nicola Piovani, born in Rome in 1946, is a composer, pianist, and conductor. His name immediately brings to mind the film for which he won the Oscar for Best Original Score, Life is Beautiful by Roberto Benigni in 1999, helping to make it an internationally acclaimed masterpiece.

After studying at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, Piovani began composing film scores, debuting with newsreels for the student movement. His rise in the film industry was swift, with over 200 soundtracks and many collaborations that have become legendary, including those with Federico Fellini, the Taviani brothers, and Nanni Moretti.

Beyond cinema, Piovani’s work extends to other fields, writing songs for and with artists of the caliber of De André, De Gregori, Giorgia, and others, as well as music for theater.
