Born in Heidelberg in 1982, the Franco-German cellist Nicolas Altstaedt—equally acclaimed as a soloist, conductor, and chamber musician—captivates audiences with his extraordinary performances, spanning repertoire from Baroque to contemporary music.
His career took off after winning the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award in 2010, following which he gave a highly praised performance with the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Gustavo Dudamel at the Lucerne Festival. Since then, he has regularly performed with orchestras such as the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Czech Philharmonic, collaborating with conductors including Sir Roger Norrington, Andrew Manze, Lahav Shani, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Sir Neville Marriner, Giovanni Antonini, and Andrea Marcon.
