Celebrating its centenary this year, the SOSAT Choir is one of the most enduring and illustrious institutions in mountain choral music. Founded in 1926 within the workers’ section of the SAT (Società Alpinisti Tridentini)—established in 1872 when Trentino was still part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire—the choir aimed to promote both mountain heritage and the Italian identity of this borderland, sharing the great tradition of mountain song with the working class.

This journey led SOSAT to master archetypal mountain hymns like La Montanara and Il Signore delle Cime, alongside the nuances of Trentino folk tradition and a vast international repertoire. It is an approach that, years later, would even captivate a pianist as sophisticated as Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.

Today, SOSAT boasts nearly 2,000 concerts performed worldwide in every type of venue, including prestigious temples of music like Milan’s Teatro alla Scala—where they performed last March—alongside collaborations with exceptional musicians from diverse backgrounds.
