Considered one of the most exciting violinists of her generation for both her expressiveness and complete technical mastery of the instrument, Vilde Frang was born in Oslo and began studying the violin using the Suzuki method at the age of four. In 1999, at just twelve years old, she was chosen by Mariss Jansons to perform as a soloist with the Oslo Philharmonic.
She continued her studies in Germany with Kolja Blacher at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg and with Ana Chumachenco at the Kronberg Academy, becoming a member of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust in 2007 and later studying in London with Mitsuko Uchida.
In 2008, she signed an exclusive contract with EMI Classics, releasing her debut album the following year, which earned her a nomination for EMI Classics’ Young Artist of the Year 2010. Since 2015, she has recorded exclusively for Warner Classics.
In 2012, she was awarded the prestigious Credit Suisse Young Artist Award and made her debut at the Lucerne Festival shortly thereafter, performing with the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Bernard Haitink. Among the major international orchestras she has collaborated with are the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, and Orchestre de Paris.
