Dolomiti d’InCanto

The beautiful intuition of the I Suoni delle Dolomiti Festival was celebrating its first fifteen years. The mountain had found its new dimension, choral and shared, and continued, enhanced by music and art, to bestow moments of beauty and enchantment.

That mountain was not just any mountain. They were the Dolomites of Trentino. They told of a land made up of nature, air, rock, flowers, water, certainly, but also of its people, its history, its character.

A people that had and still has, in its deepest identity, a vocation for commitment, especially social commitment, associationism, volunteer work. A Trentino is often linked to an association, it can be a choir, a band, a cooperative, or for example the SAT (Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini – Trentino Mountaineering Association).

So in 2010, in a crystal-clear, green June, the Festival began with a very special event called “Dolomiti d’InCanto”.

It was an event dedicated to the mountains and their singing traditions: several choirs from Trentino paid homage to the Dolomites, with performances at mountain huts scattered throughout the mountains of Trentino.

The initiative was organised that year until 2013 in collaboration with the Federazione Cori del Trentino (Trentino Choir Federation) and saw the involvement of esteemed ensembles, some of which are internationally renowned and all of which are repositories of ancient traditions handed down from generation to generation.

For every “Dolomiti d’InCanto” event, precisely at noon, all the choirs would simultaneously intone one of the classic pieces from the Trentino choral repertoire. The entire Trentino region transformed into an immense open-air concert hall.

The concert would then continue with Alpine melodies, tender, popular, or poignant songs, like those sung by the Alpine troops at the front.

This choral tradition blended local roots with the international spirit of the Festival, serving as a shared and universal sign of hope.
