With his songs, Daniel Norgren has created the perfect soundtrack for one of the most famous mountain films of recent years, The Eight Mountains, based on the novel of the same name by Paolo Cognetti and set in Valle d’Aosta. Nevertheless, the Swedish singer-songwriter has had a long and varied career, as the public will discover when they arrive at Camp Centener above Madonna di Campiglio to attend his concert.
The chosen location is a splendid grassy natural terrace overlooking the Val Rendena, with some of the most famous peaks of the Dolomites in the distance: Grostè, Cima Brenta and Crozzòn, while on the opposite side you can see the glaciers of the Adamello massif. A natural setting that invites contemplation and listening, well suited to Norgren’s compositions, poised between folk, blues and pop, always very personal, intimate, authentic, far from any mainstream shortcuts, often poignant, as in As Long As We Last, perfect for the story of friendship and loss Cognetti tells, at other times more lively, as in Whatever Turns You On.
These songs were created in a “domestic” environment – Norgren likes to work at home on a four-track tape recorder – and while they are reminiscent of some American country music, they also recall the sonic textures favoured by the best Italian and Northern European singer-songwriters.
