The La Scala Cellists with S.O.S.A.T. Choir

2000X1460violoncellisti-della-scala

An Alpine choir with a hundred-year history meets the cellos of the famous “Teatro alla Scala” orchestra

Special Project: Archi, Corde, In-canto

A concert celebrating the meeting of traditions, instruments, scores, and diverse sensibilities—in the pure style of I Suoni delle Dolomiti—opens the 2026 edition of the festival in the magnificent setting of Pian della Nana, one of the most evocative corners of the Adamello Brenta Natural Park. In this wide glacial and karst basin, at about 2,000 meters above sea level on the northern slope of the Brenta Group, where the eye roams over green meadows, golden globes, pearly gray and ammonite-red rocks, two musical excellences will come together: the SOSAT Choir, one of the longest-standing alpine vocal ensembles, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, and the La Scala Cellists, active since 2003, with a repertoire ranging from contemporary pieces to reinterpretations of the classics.

The SOSAT Choir was founded in 1926 within the Workers’ Section of the SAT, the Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini. Its mission was to cultivate the great tradition of mountain and alpine singing, a tradition that would later fascinate even a sophisticated pianist like Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.

Today, SOSAT is one of Italy’s leading male choirs with an alpine repertoire, boasting around 2,000 concerts worldwide and collaborations with outstanding musicians from a wide variety of backgrounds.

At Malga Tassulla, a solitary mountain refuge overlooking the vast Pian della Nana plateau, Sosat will meet an exceptional partner: the La Scala Cellists, a prestigious ensemble inspired by the 16th-century viola consorts. The cello section of the famous Milanese orchestra explores centuries of music in its repertoire, from Vivaldi to Hendrix. The renowned musicologist and critic Angelo Foletto has described them as “versatile performers of music without boundaries.”

A perfect union, celebrating music that is free and without limits.

The Scala cellists:
Alfredo Persichilli, Sandro Laffranchini, Martina Lopez Smuraglia, Gianluca Muzzolon, Simone Groppo, Beatrice Pomarico, Gabriele Garofano, Giovanni Inglese
