Villa Welsperg, built in 1853, once the residence of the Counts from whom it takes its name, is a splendid example of stately mountain architecture. It is made up of three buildings, the villa itself, the small church and the barn, surrounded by a garden and on the edge of a large pasture that eventually becomes a peat bog. Today it is the headquarters of the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Natural Park. The beauty of the place alone would justify the trip. But in this case the reason is even more tempting: the musical programme includes a very famous name in Italian music (but his fame has crossed the borders), Elio, leader of the unforgettable Elio e le Storie Tese, in the double role of narrator and baritone, a famous soprano, Scilla Cristiano, and the Philharmonic Oboe Quartet, an offshoot of the Berlin Philharmonic, one of the most prestigious symphony orchestras in the world.
The concert under the Pale di San Martino is an original, brilliant reinterpretation of The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, based on the adaptation by Vivian Lamarque, with additions from the original libretto. The widely acclaimed show also includes some famous arias, such as that of the jolly bird-catcher Papageno, accompanied throughout by music arranged by F.J. Rosinack for oboe, violin, viola and cello.
