Special Project
The Rifugio Brentei, in the heart of the Adamello Brenta Natural Park, is a historic base for hikers and a starting point for exploring the whole of the Dolomites, at the foot of the Crozzon di Brenta and “guarded” by Cima Tosa, Cima Margherita, Brenta Alta, Campanile Alto and Campanile Basso, and the rocky spurs of Sfulmini. The mountain hut is one of the most evocative destinations for a high-altitude hike in eastern Trentino, recently restored according to the most advanced criteria of sustainable construction, and is also famous for the small stone church built next to it, dedicated to those who have fallen in the mountains and the subject of countless photographs.
In this solemn and somewhat dramatic setting, Mario Brunello, Italian cellist and long-time friend of I Suoni delle Dolomiti (of which he is also the artistic director), founder and director of the Orchestra d’archi italiana, professor at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and member of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, will share his experience of music that truly knows no boundaries, having performed on stages all over the world with the most prestigious conductors such as Abbado, Muti, Mehta, but also with singer-songwriters such as Capossela, exploring new styles and languages, following unexplored paths.
During the hikes and at the final concert at Rifugio Brentei, Brunello will be accompanied by the Quartetto Prometeo – an ensemble with over thirty years of experience and a long list of awards, collaborations and recordings for labels such as ECM, Sony and Brilliant – made up of Nurit Stark (first violin), Aldo Campagnari (second violin), Danusha Waskiewicz, (viola), Francesco Dillon (cello). The public will also be invited to discover and listen, on 14 September, to a masterpiece of chamber music, the String Quintet in C major op. 163 by Franz Schubert.
